<image:title>the hitched insider - how to choose your perfect wedding celebrant - Choosing a wedding celebrant is one of those jobs that sounds easy until you actually start doing it.</image:title>
<image:caption>You jump online, search “wedding celebrant Melbourne”, open 47 tabs, see a lot of smiling faces, a lot of “personalised ceremonies” and suddenly everyone is warm, relaxed, fun, professional and passionate. Lovely. Also wildly unhelpful. Because the truth is, most celebrants will say similar things. The trick is working out who actually suits you, who can write the kind of ceremony you want and who can stand in front of your favourite people with a microphone and not make it weird. So, how do you choose the right wedding celebrant in Melbourne? Let’s get into it. Start with the vibe, but don’t stop there Yes, vibe matters. You want a celebrant you feel comfortable with. Someone who gets your humour, understands what you do and don’t want, and doesn’t make you feel like you need to perform a more wedding-y version of yourselves. But vibe alone is not enough. Someone can be lovely over coffee and still write a ceremony that sounds like it came from a dusty folder called “Romantic Ceremony Version 4”. You want personality and skill. Look for a celebrant who can show you they know how to write, perform and guide a ceremony from start to finish.</image:caption>

<image:title>the hitched insider - what does a wedding celebrant actually do? - A lot of people think a wedding celebrant turns up, says some nice words, does the legal bit, claps politely and disappears into the sunset.</image:title>
<image:caption>Cute. Incorrect. A good wedding celebrant does a lot more than stand there with a microphone for half an hour. The ceremony might be the part everyone sees, but there is a whole backstage circus happening before the wedding day even gets close. So if you’ve ever wondered what a wedding celebrant actually does, here’s the simple version: we handle the legal requirements, write and deliver the ceremony, guide the process and help set the tone for one of the biggest moments of your day. Here’s what that actually looks like. First, your celebrant checks the legal stuff Before the fun ceremony bits, there are legal requirements. Your celebrant will help you complete the Notice of Intended Marriage, check your identity documents, confirm you are legally able to marry and make sure everything is done within the required timeframe. Not glamorous. Very important. A celebrant also prepares the legal paperwork for the wedding day, explains what needs to be signed and lodges the marriage documents afterwards. This is the part where “near enough” is not good enough. You want someone who knows what they are doing.</image:caption>

<image:title>the hitched insider - what is a ‘legals only’ marriage ceremony? - Not everyone wants a big wedding ceremony. Some couples want the legal bit done simply, privately and without turning the whole thing into a production involving 90 chairs, a floral arbour and someone’s cousin doing a reading from a phone with 7% battery.</image:title>
<image:caption>Enter: the legals-only marriage. A legals-only marriage is exactly what it sounds like. It covers the legal requirements to get married in Australia, without a full personalised ceremony. Simple. Practical. Still legally important. Here’s how it works… What is a legals-only marriage? A legals-only marriage is a short, simple ceremony that includes the required legal wording, the signing of the marriage paperwork and the two witnesses needed to make the marriage official. It is not a full wedding ceremony. There is usually no personalised love story, no big guest arrival, no ceremony structure with readings, no wedding party processional and no long script. It is for couples who want to get legally married without the full wedding moment. Who does legals-only suit? Legals-only marriages can be perfect for couples who: want to get legally married now and celebrate later do not want a big ceremony are planning a destination wedding overseas need the paperwork handled simply want something private hate being the centre of attention want to keep things low-fuss just want to be married without the big wedding machinery There is nothing lesser about it. It is just a different kind of wedding choice. Not every couple wants a full ceremony and Not every couple needs one.</image:caption>

<image:title>the hitched insider - 15 of the most unique melbourne wedding venues - Looking for a Melbourne wedding venue that doesn’t feel like a beige function room with chicken-or-beef energy? Excellent. You’re in the right place.</image:title>
<image:caption>Your venue is one of the biggest decisions you’ll make. Before anyone hears your vows, sees your flowers, tastes the canapés or watches your cousin launch themselves onto the dance floor like they’ve been waiting for this moment since Year 9, they’ll walk into the venue and get a feeling. So choose a place that feels like you. How to choose the right Melbourne wedding venue Before you fall in love with the exposed brick, chandeliers, rooftop views or dramatic staircase, ask yourself a few practical questions: Can you have the ceremony and reception in the same place? What happens if it rains? Does the venue suit your actual guest count, not your fantasy guest count before the family spreadsheet got involved? Will the room feel full, comfortable and alive with your numbers? Is there enough space for the ceremony, dinner, bar, music and dance floor? Does the venue already have atmosphere or will you need to bring in a lot of styling? Is it easy for guests to get there? Does it feel like you? Because the best Melbourne wedding venue is not always the biggest, trendiest or most expensive one. It is the one that makes your day feel like it has landed in the right place.</image:caption>

<image:title>the hitched insider - decoding wedding dress codes - Wedding Dress Codes… Let’s Clear This Up! If you’ve ever stared at a wedding invite thinking:</image:title>
<image:caption>“What does semi-formal actually mean?” “Is cocktail dress short or long?” “Am I about to be overdressed… or wildly underdressed?” You’re not alone. Wedding dress codes are one of the most confusing parts of attending (or planning) a wedding. So let’s break it down properly and remove the guesswork. Black Tie This is the most formal option, elegant, polished, luxe, and generally leans into deep, rich colour palettes. Full tuxedo with a bowtie floor length gown with heels loud or multiple colours and patterns are a no sequins and elevated fabrics are a yes full Formal Still elevated, just slightly less rigid than black tie. classic, refined, with soft and medium colours. Full suit: jacket plus either a vest or suspenders, with a Tie or bowtie and laced dress shoes Mid to floor-length dress with heels Polished but not over-the-top one to two colours are fine, but nothing too chaotic Semi-Formal The most misunderstood of all wedding dress codes. it’s more elevated than ‘cocktail’ but not as dressed up as ‘full formal’. you want to look smart and put together but things are slightly more relaxed. Suit with flexibility: Jacket OR vest OR suspenders (pick one or two, not all three), a tie/bowtie and Laced or slip-on dress shoes mid to floor length dress with heels tailored jumpsuit or elevated matching set one or two colours or an elevated pattern is ok</image:caption>

<image:title>the hitched insider - why you should definitely do a first look - I swear I will die on this hill!</image:title>
<image:caption>if you’ve been researching wedding planning in Australia, you’ve probably seen both sides. as someone who got married and did not do a first look, i can tell you i wish i had. and as someone who sees a lot of weddings, i can tell you that a hefty percentage of couple feel the same way. there is literally only one reason not to do a first look: “but i want the big aisle moment!” ok, and what if i told you that a first look doesn’t ruin that moment, but makes it sweeter? when you have that moment publicly, with potentially hundreds of people watching, the pressure is on. you better cry! otherwise what kind of evil, heartless person are you? and then everything is so overwhelming you miss half of the ceremony trying to calm down and lock in - and trust me, you want to be paying attention if I’m your celebrant, that’s some quality content you should be listening to. so now that this one single reason not to have a first look doesn’t seem to be as convincing, let’s cover the may reasons why a first look is one of the best choices you can make in your wedding planning… you will be more present with each other during a first look than you would be if you first laid eyes on each other at the ceremony. take it in, soak it up, the day is here and you both look stunning! you will be more present for the ceremony. having already seen each other and made space for some huge emotions, you’re now able to fully enjoy the ceremony and take all of it in. you can smash out a bunch of photos earlier in the day. it might just be some shots of the two of you, or you might also be able to include your wedding party and even your family in this shoot, either way it frees up time for later. without a first look, the first thing you have to do after the ceremony is hours of photos, but with a first look you’re able to enjoy cocktail hour mingling with your guests. in the hundreds of weddings i’ve been part of, the difference is clear. Not in a loud, dramatic way, but in a calm and grounded way. couples are more centred and able to full immerse themselves in enjoying the greatest day of their lives that they’ve been planning for months, or even years. you gain everything from doing a first look, while actually losing nothing. this one simple choice can exponentially elevate your wedding to that next level, and it’s something I’m so passionate about that I will continue to preach it for as long as i’m a celebrant (maybe even longer)!</image:caption>

<image:title>the hitched insider - wedding ceremony ideas that aren’t cringe - most couples want a personal wedding ceremony, They just don’t want it to feel like everyone has been trapped inside a scented candle commercial.</image:title>
<image:caption>The good news is that personal does not have to mean cheesy. Meaningful does not have to mean dramatic. Romantic does not have to mean someone reads a poem about two trees becoming one forest while your friends stare politely at the floor. A great ceremony can be warm, funny, emotional and completely you without making anyone’s organs shrivel from second-hand embarrassment, so Here are some wedding ceremony ideas that don’t feel cringe… Start with what actually matters to you Before adding anything to your ceremony, ask: Does this feel like us? Do we actually want this? Are we doing this because it means something, or because our families expect it? or because we saw it on a wedding blog and panicked? A good ceremony does not need more stuff. It needs the right stuff. Choose music with personality Ceremony music does not have to be soft acoustic covers unless you love soft acoustic covers! You can choose music that reflects your relationship, your humour, your family or the mood you want to create. Think about: a song that feels like the two of you a track that makes your guests smile something cinematic something nostalgic something unexpected a song connected to a loved one music your kids love The right song can shift the whole atmosphere before anyone says a word.</image:caption>

<image:title>the hitched insider - do you need a wedding rehearsal? - tldr: no. your venue, celebrant and other vendors can run a flawless day on the fly as long as they are experienced pros who know how to prep properly and perform professionally.</image:title>
<image:caption>in more detail Wedding rehearsals can be helpful, for some couples in some circumstances. but most weddings aren’t full theatrical performances with a 32-second window for the flower girl and dad needing to remember to walk on beat 3. The point of a rehearsal is not to perform the whole ceremony word for word, but to make sure the moving parts feel clear enough that everyone can walk, stand, and hand over rings without looking like they’ve been dropped into a live improv show. But i’ll let you in a little secret… most people are intelligent and capable enough to achieve this without rehearsing it, and since a rehearsal is generally at least 1 week before the wedding, you can bet everyone will need a recap on the day anyway. so, What even is a wedding ceremony rehearsal? A ceremony rehearsal is a simple run-through of the logistics that usually covers: where everyone starts who has the rings who walks down the aisle what order people enter where everyone stands where people exit any key timing or music cues It does not usually involve reading the full ceremony script. In fact, I prefer not to rehearse the whole script. The ceremony should still feel fresh on the day for the full impact and organic reactions, not like everyone has already sat through the dress rehearsal and is now politely watching the sequel.</image:caption>

<image:title>the hitched insider - do you need a professional wedding mc? - What does a wedding MC actually do?</image:title>
<image:caption>A wedding MC is the person who hosts the reception and keeps the key moments moving. That can include: welcoming guests introducing the couple into the room making announcements introducing speeches keeping the timeline on track liaising with the venue, DJ, band, videographer and photographer managing guest energy helping with transitions letting people know what is happening next keeping things warm, clear and not weird problem solving on the fly A good MC is not just reading a list. They are steering the room. Option 1: A friend/family member MC A person close to you can be a great MC if they are confident, organised, sober enough and genuinely comfortable speaking in front of a crowd. The upside is obvious: they know you. They can bring personal warmth and familiar energy. The downside? They may not know how to manage timing, read a room or keep things moving when speeches run long, dinner is delayed or your uncle decides he has “just a few words”. and let’s not forget what can happen if they accidentally get a little too sauced… cue your in-laws getting offended or your faf’s speech being missed entirely! Also, asking a loved one to MC can turn them from guest into unpaid staff. Some people love that, Some people regret saying yes the second they see the run sheet. managing expectations can be the biggest challenge here. Option 2: Your DJ or band as MC Some DJs and bands offer MC-style announcements, and this can definitely work for basic hosting. They already have the microphone and they are across the music cues, which is helpful. But logistics is the barrier here. your dj/band is physically tied to the decks/stage, unable to work the room or check on the group smoking cigars outside. they’re less approachable by anyone with a question or issue, and will have a harder time checking in with the vendors. Ask exactly what they include. “Can make announcements” and “will confidently host the reception” are not the same thing.</image:caption>
